Irish Tea Win Big at Great Taste Awards

Irish Tea companies were big winners at the 2013 Great Taste Awards.   Punjana Tea, from Belfast, and Bewleys Tea, from Dublin both were winners at the awards.   Actually, both were repeat award winners.

First,  Punjana’s newly launched Thompson’s Signature Blend won double Gold, which, according to Guild of Fine Foods, make it the #1 tea bag in Ireland and the United Kingdom.  Thompson’s Signature Blend is not available in the United States.  Over the last 6 years, Punjana has won 6 Gold Stars.

Bewleys Irish afternoon Tea won 1 Gold Star in this prestigious award.  Bewleys Teas and Coffees have been winners in the Great Taste Awards for 6 years in a row.

The Guild of Fine Foods produces the Great Taste Awards. The awards recognize the best specialty foods and are sometimes called the Oscars of the food world.   To be recognized as a winner, the teas were judged by 3 different blind tasting panels. Judges consist of fine food retailers, chefs, restaurant critics, food writers and other industry experts.  Over 10,000 products were submitted by over 2100 companies in the 2013 Great Taste Awards.
